Colonial Van Lines, an independent long-distance moving company headquartered in Pompano Beach, Florida, is marking a training milestone this month: about 200 drivers have now graduated from Colonial Van Lines University (CVLU). The on-site training facility launched in Spring 2023 to prepare movers for real-world customer experiences. The milestone shows how the independent van line has made training a core part of how it handles interstate moves.

CVLU gives trainees a place to practice before they work in a customer’s home. The five-day immersive program focuses on handling household items, protecting customers’ homes, and delivering quality service. Training takes place in a fully staged two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and den. Graduates take those skills into the company’s long-distance moving services, where households relocate across state lines.

The facility also offers on-site lodging for out-of-town trainees, so drivers who live elsewhere can complete the program at the Pompano Beach headquarters. Each class reinforces the Colonial way of service through practical, hands-on learning, with trainees working through the same kinds of rooms and household items they handle on the job.

“Seeing about 200 drivers graduate is a milestone our whole team is proud of,” said Aldo DiSorbo, CEO and President of Colonial Van Lines. “Our movers work inside customers’ homes, and the apartment lets them practice caring for a home before they ever step into a customer’s.”

Colonial Van Lines serves households moving long-distance across the contiguous 48 states. Its interstate packers and movers handle packing, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and custom crating. The company also offers storage and auto shipping. “Families trust us with the things that matter most to them,” DiSorbo added. “Training gives our movers the skills to treat every home and every box with care.”

The graduation milestone adds to the company’s investment in training at its Pompano Beach, Florida, headquarters, where the CVLU program operates. The program remains central to how Colonial Van Lines prepares its moving professionals for the long-distance and interstate moves that make up its core business.
